The HOME Program began as a partnership between representatives of the Province of Alberta, the City of Edmonton, and the real estate community in 2001. Since that time, we have provided education and support for families in moving towards home ownership. Over the past two years, we have seen a significant increase in the number of individuals attending our education sessions whose objective is the purchase of a newly-built home. While our program is extremely detailed around the mortgage, purchase and completion process of home ownership, it is generally tailored to the resale market. We believe there is now an opportunity to add programming offering information and support to families wanting to build or buy a new home.
The New Home Program is working with financial institutions, home builders, and related professionals to provide information sessions that attract the new home purchaser. These information sessions include presentations by a number of related professionals, such as a lawyer, home warranty representatives, inspection services, and builder staff. Along with the educational material around the process itself, a number of mini sessions can be provided related to items like the selection process, interior design, and landscaping.
